Muraz Center: The Clinical Biology Laboratory Presents Its ISO 15189:2022 Accreditation to the Minister of Health

The clinical biology laboratory at the Muraz Center, based in Bobo-Dioulasso, has obtained ISO 15189:2022 international accreditation, recognizing its compliance with quality and competence requirements for biological testing. This distinction was presented on October 14, 2026, to the Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Lucien Jean-Claude Kargougou.
This accreditation marks an important step in enhancing the quality of laboratory services in Burkina Faso. The ISO 15189:2022 standard establishes the requirements for clinical laboratories to ensure the reliability of results. It thus helps improve diagnosis, guide treatment decisions, and strengthen disease surveillance.
For the Director General of the National Institute of Public Health (INSP), Dr. Seydou Barro, this recognition reflects the commitment of the Muraz Center’s leadership and its entire staff to a rigorous quality assurance approach. Commending the efforts made, the Minister of Health urged the teams to build on their achievements and maintain this momentum toward excellence. He also expressed the hope that this experience would serve as a model for other national laboratories seeking to continuously improve the quality of their services.
Despite this progress, challenges remain, particularly regarding equipment, human resources, and working conditions. To this end, the minister reaffirmed his commitment to supporting capacity-building efforts at the INSP and its affiliated facilities.
Since the reliability of biological analyses is essential to the quality of medical decisions, strengthening laboratory capabilities is a key driver for improving patient care and contributing to the protection of public health.
