Burkina Faso: The Intersectoral Working Group on the Diaspora Reviews the Implementation of the 2025–2029 National Strategy

Ouagadougou, October 13, 2026 (Burkinet) – The Intersectoral Working Group on the Diaspora (GTID) held its first regular session of the year on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This meeting is part of the monitoring and evaluation of the 2025–2029 National Diaspora Management Strategy.

Chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hermann Yirigouin TOE, the session aims to strengthen ownership of this strategy among the various stakeholders involved in its implementation. Discussions focused in particular on reviewing the 2025–2027 Operational Action Plan (OAP), the strategy’s primary steering instrument.

In his remarks, the Secretary General emphasized the importance of the Burkinabè diaspora to the country’s socioeconomic development. According to him, the momentum of the Progressive People’s Revolution requires enhanced support for Burkinabè living abroad, as well as better mobilization of their skills, initiatives, and investments for the benefit of national development.

He also emphasized the need for effective coordination among the various relevant agencies, based on accessible mechanisms and a lasting relationship of trust between the State and its citizens living outside the national territory.

To this end, the Intersectoral Working Group on the Diaspora plays an essential role in analyzing proposed actions, reviewing reform proposals, and formulating recommendations aimed at improving the implementation of the strategy.

During this session, participants are called upon to assess the progress made, identify the challenges encountered, and propose corrective measures. The discussions will also contribute to the preparation of the annual implementation report, as well as to the adoption of the work plan and the proposed budget for 2027.

This first session also serves as a preparatory step for the statutory high-level meeting of the National Strategy’s Steering and Oversight Council.

Through this initiative, the Burkinabé authorities aim to strengthen the diaspora’s role in public policy and promote its active contribution to the development of Burkina Faso.
